Our inspiration comes from the Bible story of the Widow's oil, Elisha and her children.
In the Book of 2 Kings 4:1 - 7 is a well-known story entitled, the Widow's Oil. The story tells of a Widow and her two sons who were in a serious predicament; following the death of her devout and holy husband, she discovers that creditors were soon coming to take her two sons away because of household debt. The woman, who calls upon the prophet Elisha says, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves." Elisha replies, "How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?" The woman replies, "Nothing at all, except a small jar of olive oil."
The Prophet advises the woman to begin asking her neighbors for empty jars so that she can fill them with her oil. Her sons do as the Prophet commands collecting jars, bringing them back to their Mother who begins to pour oil that continues to flow mysteriously. The woman keeps pouring until her jar of oil stops. Then, the man of God says to her, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left."
Today, there are many women (including widows) raising children on their own. This story emphasizes the need and the importance for the Body of Christ to respond to these women so that they may continue to sustain their families. James 1:27 says, "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world."
In 2021, our aim is to launch a purpose-driven foundation that will provide necessary physical and spiritual resources for single Mothers, as well as widows with children (who have no legitimate family).
The Biblical story of Elisha and the Widow in the Book of Kings reminds us, the Church (Body of Christ) , of the importance of helping and defending the fatherless and widows.
I hope you will join us!
Every blessing,
